Paths through the coastal pine forests lead to the ruins of the ancient town of Skione and the frescoed 16th-century church of Panagia Faneromeni

The historic fishing harbour and the beautiful coastal promenade are characteristic of this village. Various seafood restaurants source their seafood directly from the fisherman's morning catch in the nearby harbour. During the summer there are many events on the cobbled promenade and in the small music cafes. Also during the off-peak season, the small fishing village is well worth a stay. Throughout the year Nea Skioni provides the visitor with spectacular views of the mountains, the sea and the harbour with a good opportunity to see dolphins, which are often found close to this shore. Nea Skioni beach has been awarded the "Blue Flag", a promising indicator of clean sand and clear waters.

One of the historical sites in Nea Skioni is the church 'Panagia Faneromeni' built in the 16th century. In this whitewashed building, visitors can admire, besides the beautiful 16th century frescoes, a marble figure of the Virgin Mary. According to tradition, this figure was originally from Thessaly. Washed up on the beach, it was found and picked up by local villagers. This statue located in this church has been admired ever since.

A tradition of local origin is the annual sardine festival held in August. In addition to fresh fish, local wine, the visitor has the opportunity to get in touch with a lot of folklore and music events on the beach. The festival lasts for 3 days and offers a lot of fun for locals and visitors alike.

Nea Skioni was re-founded in 1918 near the site of ancient Skioni by the inhabitants who left their mountain village of 'Tsaprani to settle near the coast. Tsaprani was eventually abandoned completely in the late 1930s. At the time Nea Skioni was found in the area, only a few fishermen's huts defined the characteristic landscape. The name of the village was inspired by the ancient town of Skioni, the oldest known colony in Halkidiki, which was located in close proximity.

Most of the pavements and streets of Nea Skioni were built in the mid-20th century.
