The town of Nessebar is one of the most visited Bulgarian resorts on the Black Sea coast. It is located 38 km from Burgas and 100 km south of Varna on the rocky peninsula of the same name, which freely connects to the sandy Sunny Beach in the south.

The town was declared an architectural and archaeological reserve in 1056. Since 1983, it has been included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. Typical for this picturesque place is the Black Sea development of two-story wooden houses, pressed together in winding streets. The atmosphere is completed by numerous churches, mainly from the Byzantine period (the church of St. John the Baptist from the 11th century, St. Stephen from the 10th century with beautiful wall paintings from the period of the Bulgarian national revival, and the church of Pantokrator). The oldest preserved church is the Basilica, which probably dates from the 5th century.
