In the Karnobat region, winemaking has a centuries-old tradition. This is evidenced by the excavation of numerous Thracian mounds in the Carnobat area, where red-figure pottery with images of the god Dionysus has been found, as well as various wine vessels. Information on wine-making in these lands can also be found in historical chronicles dating from the 5th-4th centuries BC, which testify to the brisk trade between local wine-growers and the Hellenistic Black Sea colonies.
Later, during the period of the First Bulgarian Kingdom, the majestic medieval fortress of "Markeli", in addition to its protective function, also served as a wine warehouse.
The well-kept vineyards and good wine in the Karnobat area are mentioned in the notes of dozens of foreign travellers - Germans, French, English, Poles, Hungarians - who visited these lands between the XVth and XIXth centuries. According to the testimonies, the local people prepared new terrain for vineyards with great care and skill, surrounded the land and cultivated the varieties known today.
The unique combination of relief, climate and soil characteristics is a prerequisite for the excellent quality of the Carnobat grapes. The Karnobat valley produces both traditional wine varieties and international varieties. The diversity of varieties and the terroir characteristics of the region encourage the production of high quality wines.
Burgas is the largest city in south-eastern Bulgaria and the second largest on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, and with an area of 253,644 km² it is also one of the largest in the country. According to the latest NSI census as of 31 December 2015, it has 203,017 inhabitants, making it the fourth largest city in the country. Several nature reserves and protected areas, ancient and medieval villages, the Black Sea and annual festivals attract many tourists. Burgas, located at the westernmost point of the Black Sea, gave its name to the bay of the same name, which is the largest and most populated on the Bulgarian Black Sea continent. The city is surrounded by the Burgas Lakes- Burgas, Atanasovsko and Mandrensko and the Black Sea to the east.
Among the first inhabitants of the region were the Thracians, who around the 6th century BC created a series of settlements in the territory of today's Burgas, along with the nearby towns of Apollonia, Mesembria, Anchialo. The climate in Burgas and the region is characterised as humid subtropical with marine and continental influences. The average summer air temperature reaches 26.7 °C in July, with maximum daily temperatures above 20 °C occurring until November. The average number of monthly hours of sunshine is 328.6. A continental influence is evident in the winters, but winters remain much milder compared to the interior and snowfall is relatively sparse. The future development of the city is related to the opening of Burgas to the sea and lakes. In this context, the Super Burgas project is discussed. The upcoming project on public cycling, on the removal of heavy traffic from the central part of the city, on the restoration of St. Anastasia Island and the bridge, as well as on the rehabilitation of the historic centre, has already been implemented. In 2012, two shopping centres were opened in Burgas. The opening of a multifunctional sports hall and a coastal asphalt road connecting Burgas with the new district of Kyosheto and the Sarafovo district is planned.
