The town of Nessebar is one of the most visited Bulgarian resorts on the Black Sea coast. It lies 38 km from Burgas and 100 km south of Varna on the rocky peninsula of the same name, which loosely follows the sandy Sunny Beach to the south.

The town was declared an architectural and archaeological reserve in 1056. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. The Archaeological Museum, with its extensive collection of icons and ancient pottery, and the Monastery of St. George are also worth a visit.
