Sardinia is a beautiful, idyllic island that is an autonomous region of Italy. Sardinia is washed by the waters of the Mediterranean Sea and is located near Corsica and Tunisia. Sardinia also includes smaller islands such as Capreva or San Pietro.
Sardinia has a diverse terrain, where you can find everything from beaches to mountains. The highest point, the peak of Punta La Marmora, is a full 1843 meters. This is tempting for climbers. In Sardinia you can walk in three national parks and ten regional ones. Much of Sardinia's nature is protected and it is definitely worth seeing this preserved landscape.
Beach escape in Sardinia
With crystal clear turquoise waters and pristine stretches of sand, the island's coastline is ideal for beach lovers. The Costa Smeralda, located in the northeast, is famous for its charming resorts, luxury yachts and white beaches. To the south are the dazzling beaches of Chia, known for their golden sand dunes and Caribbean-like water. For a more remote experience, head to Cala Goloritzé, an isolated cove on the east coast that can only be reached by foot or boat. Sardinia's beaches are beautiful and varied, catering to different tastes and preferences.
What to see?
The real pearl of Sardinia is, among other things, its capital Cagliari, which has been inhabited since the 2nd millennium BC. Thanks to this, there are many monuments and places to discover in Sardinia. You can walk through the oldest district of Marina and Casteddu and you can see the neo-Gothic town hall building Palazzo Comunale or the impressive Renaissance church of S. Agostino. Archeology enthusiasts can visit the National Archaeological Museum. An ancient Roman amphitheater can also be seen. In short, everyone gets their own way.
Climate and climate
This island is an ideal choice for anyone who likes the Mediterranean climate. The best time and peak season is from May to October. Summer temperatures rise slowly, but in summer they can be around 30°.
Culture
Festivals and celebrations: Sardinia is known for its lively festivals and celebrations, which play a central role in the cultural fabric of the island. One of the most famous festivals is the "Sagra di Sant'Efisio", which takes place every May in Cagliari, during which the locals dress up in traditional costumes and walk through the streets to honor the patron saint of the island. Other important festivals include the "Sartiglia" in Oristan, where medieval jousting takes place, and the "Cavalcata Sarda" in Sassari, where traditional costumes, music and equestrian competitions are performed.
Music and Dance: Traditional Sardinian music and dance are characteristic and are often performed during celebrations and special occasions. "Canto a tenore" is a unique form of polyphonic singing recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. The hypnotizing sound of the harmony of four vocal parts is a testament to the island's musical heritage. Folk dances such as "Ballu Tundu" and "S'ardia" are also popular, characterized by energetic movements and colorful costumes.
Culinary specialties:
You cannot do without culinary specialties in Sardinia. The island's cuisine has been influenced by a variety of influences and combines Italian, Spanish and North African flavors. Seafood lovers will enjoy the abundance of fresh fish and shellfish. Also try traditional Sardinian pastas such as malloreddus and culurgiones, often combined with aromatic sauces and local cheeses such as pecorino. And don't forget to try the famous Sardinian wines, especially the robust red and refreshing white Vermentino.
