The resort of Pomorie belongs to the quieter places. It is an ancient city whose origins date back to the 4th century BC. Pomorie resembles the nearby Nesebar in its appearance. Its old part also lies on a peninsula, although not as narrow as in the case of Nessebar. In 1906, unfortunately, the town was destroyed by a large fire, so the old town was not preserved. The town is located about 18 km from Nessebar and 20 from Burgas. Among other things, the city is famous for its healing mud baths, located on a beautiful rocky peninsula near Lake Pomorie. Baths have healing power and help against diseases of the locomotor system, nervous system and eczema. This small town became rich by exporting salt and the aromatic dry wine "Pomoriiski Dimjat". There are also rare bird species to be seen, such as woodcocks and little cormorants, which frequent the long stretch of salt water. From the fishing port stretches the main, four-kilometer-long strip of Pomeranian beach, which separates the local famous salt mines from the open sea. As a rarity, you will see black sand on one of the beaches. The real center of this seaside town is the lively pedestrian zone that leads through the green park. Here you will find a number of restaurants, shops, discotheques, a bank, a post office and a polyclinic. The advantage of this city is the convenient connection to the nearby Sunny Coast and historic Nesebar. In Pomorie you can sunbathe on three nice beaches. The first beach lies north of the old center and is very long and fine sandy. What is unusual is that its more remote part essentially forms a kind of border between the Black Sea and Lake Pomorie, which lies immediately behind it. From this beach it is only a short walk to the ancient center of the resort. If you like privacy, head further north along the beach, away from the local hotels. The further you go, the less people you see on the beach. The second beach is smaller and is located south of the resort. It is quieter, further from the center, in places with stones. But you will find peace and privacy here. The third beach is a rarity, you will find black sand and healing mud here. Both umbrellas and sunbeds are available on the beaches for a fee, and there is also a varied offer of water sports.
Near Pomorie, about 5 km west, stands the monastery of St. Jiří with manicured gardens as well as Pomeranian tombs and a mausoleum. About 30,000 tons of salt is mined in Pomeranian Lake every year. The Salt Museum is of tourist interest. During the summer season, Pomorie hosts dozens of concerts, theater performances, and festivals. Exhibitions are held, so culture lovers will certainly not come short here. There are two well-preserved churches from the 18th and 19th centuries in the city. In the very center of the city is the monastery of St. George from the 17th century. with the well-known bas-relief. 2 km from the city lies the Pomeranian lagoon and lake (Anhialo Lake), near which a spa sanatorium using mud baths was built. This treatment method has been known here since ancient times, it was also widely used by the Byzantines. 6 km from Pomorie is the picturesque village of Sarafovo with beautiful beaches. The Atanassovské lake nature reserve is very interesting, which forms a large lagoon south of Sarafovo. Not far from the city, near the Europa campsite, Thracian graves and 3rd-4th century tombs are accessible. You should not miss Nessebar. Burgas is served by a regular bus line and private shipping companies. On the sunny slopes around the city, grapevines thrive. The local wine production is among the highest quality and most recognized in Bulgaria. Well-known and still not widely sold varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Dimjat, Pamid, Grand Noire, Alkanboushe and others are grown here. The local rakija is also rightly called one of the best in Bulgaria.
A holiday in this picturesque town will delight lovers of beautiful nature, healing spas, good wine and black sand.
